Buy a Suica at the railway station.
*The Suica is a prepaid e-money card for moving around and shopping. There is no more need to buy a ticket from a vending machine. Just touch your Suica to the ticket gate and the fare is automatically deducted from your Suica. The Suica can be used not only for JR East trains but subways and buses as well.

Take the Yamanote line (signs marked in green, Platform 5) from Tokyo main station to the Shinagawa/Shibuya direction.
Shibuya is the stop after Ebisu and is 22 minutes from Tokyo station, trains are about every 5 minutes.
At Shibuya, change to the Keio Inokashira line.
This is a separate train company, so you need to go through the barriers,
and follow the signs to the (Keio) Inokashira line station (10 minutes walk).
Both express and local trains run on the Inokashira line, but only local trains stop at Komaba Todaimae.
The signs at the front of the platform switch between Japanese and English,
but the express trains are always indicated in red, and the local trains in orange.
Komaba Todaimae is the second stop from Shibuya (after Shinsen),
and the trains are every 6 minutes, the Journey time is 3 minutes.
At Komaba Todaimae, take the exit closest to the front of the train,
go down the stairs through the ticket barriers and turn right.
Follow the road around to the left (see map).
On the left is the train line. After about 100m, the road curves to the right,
and then to the left. Follow the road around the next (right-hand) corner (about 1-200m).
On the right is a very 'Japanese-style' building (The Japan Folk Crafts Museum),
on the left, the large modern building is the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo.
About 50m after the corner is a gate. Pass through this gate, and under the building.
